Info: Timothy A. Swanson was elected Stark County Sheriff by the Stark County Democratic Central Committee on 8-28-99, after the untimely death of Sheriff Bruce Umpleby. He was elected in the primary as Democratic Candidate for the November 2000 election.
Mr. Swanson served as Inspector with the Sheriffs department from 1993 to July 30, 1999, as Sergeant from 1984 to 1993, as Deputy Sergeant from 1981 to 1984, as Sergeant assigned to the Patrol division from 1980 to 1981 and Deputy Sheriff from 1974 to 1980.
Sheriff Swanson has been married 22 years to his wife Sandra and they have 2 children, Julia and Tim, who are both attending local universities.
Sheriff Swanson graduated from Glenoak High School, 1970, obtained an Associated Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from the Electronic Institute of Technology, Akron, Ohio, 1972 and attended the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy 176th session, 1994.
